Several years ago, board members of the current Laramie Soccer Club (formerly the Laramie Blizzard Soccer Club) proposed three goals that they felt would significantly impact the energy and economy of the Laramie community.
These goals were:
1. A merger of the two soccer clubs.
• In 2016, Laramie Blizzard Soccer Club and the Laramie Soccer Association merged to become the largest youth sports club in Laramie. With over 700 members, the Laramie Soccer Club impacts a majority of Laramie children at one point or another in their adolescence.
2. Hire a Director of Coaching to lead the new club and act as a trainer and educator for ALL youth sports.
• In 2017, David Hayes was hired as the DOC and is currently the highest licensed coach in Wyoming. With impeccable credentials in sports training, he will be able to assist with all Laramie youth athletics.
3. Construct a sports complex that serves nearly all sports in the Laramie community for generations.
• Work on this final goal began in 2017 after the Albany County Commissioners donated 20 acres of land adjacent to Highway 287 in the form of a fifty year lease. The facility will serve the entire community of Laramie, encompassing all ages. The belief is that this complex will have an impact throughout Wyoming. The next stage in this project is construction of the facility.
The facility will serve not only all youth sports but will provide a venue for the senior community, connectivity to the greenbelt, bike paths and business developments on 287. The project will be a first for the state of Wyoming as nothing of this scope has been undertaken on the private level. Furthermore, it has become not only a passion for the committee members but will become a source of pride and a lasting legacy for those who contribute to its success.
